Day 13 Football Hero/Cheerleader – 23 OCT 2008
Since there is no gender in Teletubbyland, Tinky Winky is free to wear anything they want. They do not understand why this only happens at Halloween for people.
Day 12 Soldier – 22 OCT 2008
Tinky Winky enjoyed playing with the ‘Reinactors’ but would never want to participate in a real battle. TW pointed out to me that the history of earth shows all wars are based on religious beliefs or the desire to own more. These concepts are very foreign to him because in Teletubbyland all creatures have what they need to be happy, so there is no desire to take what belongs to someone else. They don’t really have religion as everyone knows they are Divine Beings whose only mission is to enjoy life.
Day 8 Tooth Fairy – 18 OCT 2008
Ever wonder what the Tooth Fairy does with all those teeth? Sells them to a dental lab and makes a nice profit.
Day 4 Zebra - 14 OCT 2008
After playing with the candy dish (see blog entry January 23, 2008) Tinky Winky has been wanting to do The Full Zebra (reverse of Full Monty).
Day 1 The Pumpkin Patch – 11 OCT 2008
Tinky Winky and I had an interesting discussion about holidays. We decided since there are 8 days to Hanukkah and the 12 days of Christmas why not have The 21 Days of Halloween…our favorite holiday!
From now to the 31st, TW will get to experience a costume a day.
Meeting Riley - 27-28 SEP 2008
We finally got to meet our “New Family Member” (blog entry Feb 18th), who lives in Fresno (4 hours away)...and she is delightful!
One is never too young to practice a Trick or Treat grab. 
What a pumpkin!
TW loved all the toys Riley has.
I introduced her to Tinky Winky and Halloween socks.
Buster made the mistake of standing still for AuntieM.
And the parents made the mistake of allowing AuntieM some alone time with Riley.
Sacred Ground - 13 SEP 2008
This morning we drove up the Angeles Crest Highway to Mt. Wilson Road in La Canada to the Haramokngna American Indian Cultural Center to spend the day celebrating the Fall Equinox with flute music of the Indigenous people of the Western Hemisphere.
I learned that the Indigenous people who lived in California when Columbus landed, currently own no land and are fighting the Government to be recognized as a legitimate tribe.
Tinky Winky got to meet a 5 foot Monitor Lizard…good thing she didn’t like eating Teletubbies.
I loved this man’s tattoos…like jewelry, they seemed decorative and appropriate...they wrapped all the way around depicting an arm ban including the string tied on the inside.
He told TW the center symbol stood for his wife and the feathers represented his two children.
L'chei-im - 07 SEP 2008
Today Tinky Winky got to attend his first Jewish wedding at a Temple in North Hollywood.
In a Reform Community, both men and women may wear a yarmulke to remind one of the presences of God. Wanting to join in the respect, TW put on his only skullcap like headgear, figuring September is traditionally the end of the harvest season, this cap would thank God for the bounty of the earth.
The service was filled with laughter as the Cantor had many funny stories to tell about the happy couple. How fun to attend a wedding where you laugh. The thought just hit me, what is the sound of God? When I'm in the National Forest in Big Bear, it's the wind in the trees…and on the farm it was the song of a Meadow Lark...or at home, when my cat is tucked in under my arm, it is her purring…and now I can hear God in the sound of people laughing at a wedding. Mazel Tov Lynne and Ina!
SPARKS Rule - 30 AUG 2008
Today Tinky Winky became a Sparks Fan!
TW got very excited, but I think was mostly about the team colors.
TW found a better use for it.
The diversity of the audience gave TW a warm fuzzy feeling…or maybe it was the monkey hair.
Why did the rubber chicken cross the road?
To get to the Sparks game.
Religious Hair Explained - 15 AUG 2008
We were watching the Ellen DeGeneres show and she was talking to Southern Cook, Paula Deen. I finally got a good definition for the “religious hair” comment I overheard in NC. (See blog entry Big Hair – February 07, 2008.)
Ellen: “The South is known for hair, the bigger the better.” (And she pulls out an old picture they found of Paula).
Paula: “Back in the 60’s we had wiglets…you pined it in your hair and you could get it to stand up this high (extends her arm above her head). The closer to Jesus the better we like it.”
Holy Union - 8 AUG 2008
Tonight we photographed a Holy Union for some friends.
A Holy Union is a commitment ceremony (like a wedding) usually between same sex couples who are denied the right to legal marriage. Although California currently allows legal same-sex marriages, there are many places which do not. Same-sex marriages are legal in Belgium, Canada, Norway, South Africa, Spain and Massachusetts. TW doesn’t understand why some people reject love that is different, yet similar to their own. But then Teletubbyland doesn’t divide its’ inhabitants into male and female. Where Tinky Winky comes from, they have everything they need and love each other very much, which is why they are always ready to share a Big Hug! TW sends Hugs and Kisses to Caron and Kathy.
Los Angeles Zoo Summer Slumber - 26-27 JUL 2008
We took some friends and spent the night at the Los Angeles Zoo.
We learn to identify hearing nodes in the skull that indicated a keen sense of sound. And the placement of the spine can indicate if it has two legs when the spin goes straight down, four legs if at an angle and no legs (or swimmer) if the spin goes straight out. (Tinky Winky tried to point out that no spin could mean it's a Teletubby, Beanie Baby or one of those critters found in gift shops.) Armed with all this new knowledge we tried to identify five skulls. Our first one was easy, as it still had it’s archeology markings on the bottom, identifying it as a dolphin.
And lastly we identified a predator as a member of the cat family but had no idea it was a lion as the head looked so small without the muscle and fur.
The next day they brought in some ambassadors for us to touch.
It was a wonderful adventure!
