Doo Dah Parade - 01 MAY 2010

This was the 34th Occasional Doo Dah Parade and it may have been 30 years since I last saw one in person. TW enjoyed it so much, she blended right in: Started in 1979 as an antithetical parade to the formal Rose Parade, it went irrelevantly down the same route the day before. As it got too big and popular, it was moved to January 20th and now to May 1st and over to East Pasadena.
There was a Queen and several past Queens. Howdy Krishna is a regular.

This group 'Thrill the World Los Angeles' is trying to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the most people dancing simultaneously to Michael Jackson's Thriller!
All though it lasted 2 hours, the route was only two blocks long, going down one side of the street, rounding the medium and then covering the other side of the street.

There were several non-profit groups, this was Basset Hound Rescue of Southern California.
The Daschunds for Breast Cancer wanted you to know Wieners Love Boobs and one lady had a sign: Stop the War on my Rack.

There were several men dressed in Elvis whites but no real look-a-likes.
All types of vehicles.
Men of Leisure...

I thought this was a real homeless person who decided to walk along...
But he was part of the Wild Bunch of Hollywood character actor and stunt group.
Their website says they are "bikers, hookers, gang bangers, homeless winos, thugs, strippers, rockers, drug addicts, pimps, bouncers, prisoners, cowboys and Indians in all your favorite movies, TV shows, music videos, with real long haired, bearded and tattooed bikers who own and ride their own Harley's."
Their first feature film was Waterworld.

The Braettes:
Now this father may have a good idea.Million Marijuana March...learned there is a Global rally for marijuana legalization the 1st Saturday in May, every year.
Flying Baby Sky Jousting, two dolls with lances they hoist up the polls and release, sending them flying into each other. Now I know what I can make with all those wine corks I've been saving.Love this group (didn't get the name) this is a Congresswoman leashed to a special interest lobbyist with a briefcase full of money.

First Day Issue Ceremony - 30 APR 2010

My friend, Eve, invited me to join her for a USPS First Day Issue Ceremony for the Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet stamp series. Since Ellen DeGeneres was going to be there, I thought why not. I had never been to The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood and was delighted to find Tinky Winky loved posing with the statues they had outside the building. Here's TW...
Away we go...
Old habits left over from "Hangin' with a Rough Crowd" (see blog entry Feb 25, 2008).
Fun with Red:
Every tourist stops to have a picture taken with Lucy:
Smile you're on Candid Camera...this stranger had no idea I was catching her perfect pose:
As for the ceremony, it was more educational than entertaining. Did you know, if one in eight people adopted a shelter pet, we could eliminate the euthanasia of healthy pets in the US? I'm glad to say all my pets have been rescue animals. And yes, Ellen was there:
We were told Ellen would not be giving autographs after the ceremony, but people rushed the stage and she obliged as many as she could before being pulled away for another engagement.
I found out, attending a First Day Issue ceremony was on Eve's bucket list...mine would be having one of my photos on a "nation-wide" issued stamp.
