Umstead Park - 16 MAR 2008

I went hiking at William B Umstead State Park, sandwiched between the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and the city of Raleigh.
This 5,579 acre park is the product of Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps that replanted the one-crop depleted farmland with oak, hickory and other hardwoods.
It has 3 lakes and a stand of 300+ year old hardwoods.
Tinky Winky kept stopping to play in the red soil.
On the way home we stopped at the hospital across the street to photograph their recently projecting red tulips.
